    Mess Management Specialist Master Chief Gary D. Dewitt was born in Oskaloosa, Iowa on April 20, 1952. He began active duty Naval Service on May 11, 1972 and attended Commissaryman (CS), Class "A" School at the Naval Training Center in San Diego, California.

    He was assigned to the U.S. Naval Communications Station Harol E. Holt Exmouth in Western Australia in October 1972. In December 1974, he reported to FITRON 211 and served aboard the USS HANCOCK (CV 19). He transferred to the USS ORISKANY (CV 34), homeported in Alameda, California in October 1975.

    He became the Officer's Club manager at the Naval Air Station in Meredian, Mississippi in April 1976, and remained there for two years before transferring to the USS PAUL (FF 1080), homeported in Mayport, Florida in May 1978. In December 1981, Master Chief DeWitt was assigned to the USS MIDWAY (CV 41) homeported in Yokusuka, Japan. He transferred to the USS COCHRANE (DDG 21), also homeported in Yokusuka, Japan in February 1984.

    Master Chief DeWitt was assigned as the MS rating detailer at Commander, Naval Military Personnel Command in Washington, DC in February 1986. In July 1990 he transferred to the USS MOOSBRUGGER (DD 980) and served as the ship's Command Master Chief from September 1990 to January 1993. He reported to the USS GUAM (LPH 9) as Command Master Chief in January 1993.

    Master Chief DeWitt is authorized to wear the Navy Commendation Medal (2 awards), the Navy Achievement Medal (2 awards) the Combat Action Ribbon and various campaign and service awards.

    Master Chief DeWitt is married to the former Myrna G. deGuzman of Manila, Philippines, they reside in Virginia Beach, Virginia with their daughter, Christina Marie.
